Social-emotional Children’s Book Inventory
As part of a FLEX project at The University of British Columbia, Precilia Kong (Class of 2026) curated a book inventory of children’s books to support social-emotional learning (SEL) for children aged 4 to 6. This compilation aims to assist parents and educators in nurturing the socio-emotional development of young children through literature. To create this list, extensive research was conducted using a variety of reputable sources, including academic databases, educational websites, and book list recommendations from organizations such as the Child Mind Institute and Penguin Random House, as well as insights from educators in practice. By leveraging these resources, the selected books were chosen for their educational value and engaging content, providing valuable tools for understanding and managing emotions. There are 22 categories such as ADHD, Anger, Anxiety/Worry, Gender Roles, Sadness, Friendship, Trauma, and Bullying.
