Reading Bear Society Holiday Season Fundraiser featuring Christmas cards by local artist PhD/MD student

As the holiday season nears, we are seeking your assistance to help children who are less fortunate. This year the RBS is launching a fundraising campaign that will allow giving in simple ways. Either by a book or a teddy bear drive (collect teddy bears for the children) or the sale of holiday season greeting cards.

In celebration of the Reading Bear’s 5th year anniversary, artist and PhD/MD student, Jennifer Ji has designed a special Reading Bear greeting card. This is an opportunity to reach out to family and friends who work in offices, banks, hospitals to help to do one of the fund raising activities. Please find attached the flyers for these fundraisers. If you wish to receive Christmas cards, flyers, empty boxes for books or teddy bears or have any questions, please send an email to info@thereadingbear.ca.

Thank you for your support. Your generosity will allow deserving children to feel extra special this Christmas.

About the artist

Jennifer Ji is a 3rd year MD/PhD student at UBC. Her PhD work in Dr. David Huntsman’s lab at the BC Cancer Agency will focus on the proteomic and metabolomic aspects of clear cell ovarian cancer. Through this work, she hopes to identify new targeted therapeutics for this disease. Aside from her PhD work, Jennifer enjoys visual arts and is versed in both digital and traditional methods.

She is delighted that her artistic skills can contribute to the Reading Bear Society’s early childhood literacy program, and looks forward to new opportunities to help those who need a hand up. Jennifer has also designed illustrations for My Bear Book, an activity booklet that is at the heart of the reading buddies relationship. This booklet promotes the love of the eight bear species while touching on themes of social and emotional learning as well as notions of early literacy.
